Exams

Childrens' Examinations have been devised to engender a sense of worthwhile achievement for children who dance for recreation and children who wish to make dance a career. Grades from Pre-Primary upward progressively develop children’s technical ability, giving them a sense of dance combined with a sense of natural grace and poise, also appreciation of dance and its relationship to music. In Ballet they perform short classical variations and character dances, and are encouraged to develop their imaginative qualities through the use of mime.

At SJ Academy of Dance we encourage our students to take examinations provided by the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. The child's teacher decides when a child is ready for an exam; this is usually after four or five terms of study. It is essential to have a good knowledge and understanding of the syllabus and additional coaching classes are provided before the examination to ensure the child is confident. We are aware that for various reasons some children may be unable to take examinations and of course these children are moved up to the next grade when appropriate.

UCAS points

We are delighted to announce that UCAS tariff points for Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations in Dance at Level 3 are confirmed.
This means that candidates who have achieved a Pass or higher at Grades 6-8, Intermediate or Advanced Foundation can use their exam result as contributing towards their points tariff when applying to a university or Higher Education institution in the UK.
