Exams
At SJ Academy of Dance, we offer children the opportunity to take part in graded dance examinations that are designed to promote a sense of achievement and personal growth - whether they dance for enjoyment or are considering a future career in dance.

From Pre-Primary level upward, these examinations progressively build technical ability, artistry, musicality, and confidence. Students develop not only classical technique and character dance skills, but also their natural sense of grace, poise, and imagination through creative expression and mime.

We proudly prepare students for exams with two internationally recognised examination boards:
-
The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD)
-
The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD)

A student’s readiness for an exam is determined by their teacher, typically after four to five terms of consistent study. To support each dancer fully, we provide additional coaching classes leading up to the exam to ensure they feel confident, prepared, and capable.

We also understand that not every child may be able to take part in examinations due to personal circumstances. In such cases, students are still moved up to the next grade when they are ready, ensuring their progress continues without pressure.

UCAS Points for Dance Exams
We are delighted to confirm that Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations in Dance (Grades 6–8, Intermediate and Advanced Foundation) now carry UCAS tariff points.
This means students who achieve a Pass or higher in these exams can use their results as part of their university or higher education applications in the UK, providing valuable recognition for their dedication and hard work in dance.
